Izn't we hansum?

P.S. Dog Mom here. We're in a state of Poo Emergency here at the Dog Hotel. Both Gus and Waldo have had very runny poo for the last couple of months. We don't give them a lot of treats (maybe 2 a day--and all-natural treats), and we've had them both on holistic kibble for a while. I was hoping it was because we switched both of them to one food, and they were going through transition, but it hasn't seemed to get any better. (sorry to be graphic, but...) The first couple of stools that come out pretty solid, but by the end it is completely runny. It is not possible for us to put them on raw diets right now. Any other suggestions? I thought I'd ask my other dog moms before I take them into the vet. I feel bad for the boy who picks up the poo in our lawn!

Did you switch both of them to something new? If not, it seems odd that both have the problem. Maybe they have some sort of parasite that needs to be treated??? Just a guess. Did you transition the food change slowly?

I keep metranadizol on hand at all times. it's used to treat diarrhea by most vets. and you can get it here ( ) without prescription. I don't know what the dose would be for Waldo, my boys (36-47lbs) get 1 pill twice a day when they're having runny poops and i usually keep them on it for 5 days after their poop is solid again. If they're having straight runs i give them 2 pills twice a day for 5 days and then 1 pill twice a day until after it stops. Check with your vet to make sure tho.

Pumpkin or cooked sweet potatoes are good to add to their diets to regulate stool too.

Dozer occasionally eats something that doesn't agree with him, and he gets diarrhea. Pumpkin might help. You can try fasting both dogs for about 24 hrs, then reintroduce bland food like rice and chicken and see if the situation improves.

Another possibility is that your boys have picked up a virus or parasite, like coccidia, giardia, or salmonella. They might have gotten something from eating an insect like a fly, or drinking out of a pond where ducks live, or being in contact with another dog who had the virus or parasite. If the diarrhea keeps up for several days or gets worse, it's probably time to check with the vet.

Hope the boys feel better soon and it's nothing serious!

New friends are always cool! Glad you had a nice time!!

Luna had a bad episode once where she had some not-so-fun-stuff coming out of her rear. I took her to the vet (stool sample came back negative) but they still gave her something to knock out any potential bacteria. Dr. said that dogs normally have very good digestive tracks and it's pretty easy to tell when something isn't quite right.

Hope you get some answers and hope you pups feel good soon!

Hi Guys,

Your new furiends sure are cuties. A doggy can never have enough furiends!

I hope your poops get back to normal. Mom doesn't know of anything to try that hasn't already been suggested.

We had a similar experience and mom changed our kibble to one that was grain-free and the problem went away! We hope you find the cure soon. We know just how stressful this can be for all of you!

Love ya lots,

That 5K sounds like fun! Good for your mom. On the poop issue, sometimes Madison's is on the too soft side, and H-Mom thinks it's from drinking too much water at the park and running like demon (it happens right then and there) with a heavy dose of adrenalin mixed in. When she is at home, everything, is -- ummm -- perfect!

My Mom gives me pure pumpkin (not the pie mix kind) and it usually takes care of it fast. She spreads a whole canful out on a cookie sheet, freezes it, then breaks it into chunks, puts it into a ziploc and we always have some. This is for I ate something I shouldn't have, and not for bacterial things. Good luck!

Something that is unlikely since it happening to both, is a sensitivity/allergy to an ingredient that is in their kibble. Or the protein level in the kibble is to high for their systems. What kibble are you feeding them?

Hi Gus & Waldo,

Your new friends look very cool.

Hey, Waldo - come over and check out my latest post...I am FINALLY becoming braver and a little bit more like you!! :-)

About the kibble - perhaps the grain content is too high? My human says this often makes runny poo - and lots of poo! We don't think it's a protein amount problem - but perhaps a sensitivity to the type of protein in the food? eg, some dogs are allergic to beef or lamb or whatever...but usually, runny poo (if not from sickness) means too much fibre & grain in the diet!!

But my human says it is best still to go to the vet and get a proper medical opinion rather than us all guessing here! :-)

Good luck!

You have a boy to pick up your poo? Don't tell my mom that.

I have been eating the same kibbles since I was a pup and every time momma tries to switch that happens even if she combines it for like weeks!

You should take some poo to the vet. They seem to like that. I once got cooties from drinking stinky water that they found in my poo.

Good luck.

Sorry been on trial this week and it has been crazy - you can try canned pumpkin
(not pumpikin pie filling - straight pumpkin) 2-4 tablespoons - cpuloe times a day - it works for both runs and constipation.

Bummer about the poo thing. :( We feed Nala the Honest Kitchen food and she does great on is raw but not raw in the sense most people think. :) It's all natural, raw veggies and things and she loves it. Her breath even smells better with it. Hope you get it figured out. :)

New friends are really fun! And you two look great at the 5K. (So does your mom, or at least what we can see of her).

We have had poop issues too, but it's gotten better since we switched dog food. We are on grain-free EVO now. Also, we get a scoop of canned pumpkin and a scoop of plain fat-free yogurt in our kongs every day. That helps too.
