Analytics and Attacks

2 more days to get your Tricks for Treats videos in!

Do any of you use Google Analytics for your website? If you don't, you should start! I have found some of the coolest information from my reports! For example, most of my website traffic is located within the United States, but I also get regular hits from Malaysia, Gibraltar, Honduras, and Puerto Rico! You can also pinpoint the locations of the visitors from different countries. For example, my 3rd highest traffic comes from the United Kingdom, and half of those visits are from the Manchester area. It's a great tool that you can also use to track which posts generate the most traffic. According to today's report, I had the most visitors on March 11th, when I posted THIS Wordless Wednesday post. Over 70 people went to my site that day! It can also tell you which post has the most views overall, and which sites are your best referral sites. For instance, I get a lot of traffic from Mango, and from people who search on Google for "great dane drips pee". Weird. If you don't use Google Analytics for your site yet, give it a try!

I took the boys to the dog park today and got this fun picture of Waldo. This was about 10 minutes before he was attacked by an unruly and unsocialized Bully mix. Waldo is skittish around other dogs--if he feels threatened, he will run. Well, this Bulldog mix was all over that and went from zero to red zone in about 15 seconds. A bunch of other dogs started barking and getting aggressive, including one little dog at my feet who jumped on Gus' back and was biting at him. While I was pulling that dog off of Gus, the bulldog got Waldo pinned against the fence and was biting all over his legs and neck. Thankfully a couple of other owners and I ran in and were able to pull the other dog off (note: NOT the bully's owner, but others). Waldo had lots of blood spots on him--thankfully I could only find one open spot on his tail. The rest of the spots seemed to be smears. I have never been so mad. I was shaking with fury. The thing that made me most upset is that I got NO recognition from the bad dog's owner. She shuffled him off to the small dogs pen, and just avoided me. No apologies, no asking if my dog was okay. A couple of other dog owners actually asked her to leave because her dog was obviously unsocialized and a danger to others. Waldo was pretty shaken up. It took me a while to get him to stand up and let me look at him. If I touched his back end without him seeing, he would jump and look around. We stayed there for another half-hour or so after the other dog left so that he would calm down, but he never really got comfortable again.

Any suggestions from you other dog owners? I'm going to try to get him back to the dog park as soon as possible. Waldo was already a little skittish, and I don't want him to be fearful or turn aggressive on other dogs. After my initial fury, I was able to calm down pretty quickly and I played with other dogs to get Waldo interested. Any suggestions on things I should do to get him "back in the ring"?

pee ess: It's nearly impossible to get a picture of Gus at the dog park. He never stays in one place long enough to get a good picture!

Sick, Sick, Sick...

I'm so sorry that the boys still haven't been to your sites. I have had the flu since returning from Vegas and haven't left the couch for 4 days! (Maybe my body was rejecting the 40-degree temperature drop from there to here?) And I'm not about to let the boys use the computer on their own--what with their lack of opposable thumbs, and their young, teenage minds, who knows what could happen?

Waldo was featured on the site Licked Toys, and I forgot to mention it here (oops...mommee must be losing it). Click here to see his battle vs. the schnauzer (no offense, Madison)!

Also, don't forget the Tricks for Treats contest! Here's the guidelines again:
1. Get a video of your doggeh (or kitteh) doing their best trick(s).
2. Send a link of the video to allisonwalton79 at gmail dot com, or post the youtube code into the comments section.
3. Submissions will be taken through March 30th. Submissions will be posted on March 31st. Voting will be conducted by a non-partial judge, and the winner and their video will be posted just in time for April Fool's Day!
4. Winner will receive a special prize from Gus and Waldo!

Contest rules:
1. One video submission per doggeh.
2. Please TRY to keep your videos under 1 minute.
3. You don't have to film the most elaborate trick(s). Points will be given for reaction time, creativity, execution, and presentation. So, even if your dog only knows how to sit, make it the Best Sit Ever, and you might win!

We've had a lot of people tell us that they're going to pawticipate--we can't wait to see your submissions! Remember: the deadline for submissions is MARCH 30th. You've got 4 more days!!

Finally, I thought I'd post something about the boys. Right after we got Waldo, we took this video:

Well, recently I took an updated video. What do you think?

Run Free, Sweet Kaya

We are so sad to learn of the sudden passing of our friend Kaya. She was a sweet Dane with a one-of-a-kind soul. I'm sure her mommee Charlotte would love to hear words of encouragement from our blog friends.

Catching Up Is Hard To Do...

Hello! Dog Mom here. I'm hijacking this blog entry today to give a little update on our trip, for those of you who are interested. We actually went out west for my brother-in-law's wedding. We stayed on a ranch in Arizona, and he got married there (he's the head wrangler). We went to Vegas for a few extra days to see the sights and celebrate (as a friend cutely put it) "my first 30th birthday". Thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes! My day was filled with a tour of the Hoover Dam, some gambling, a celebrity impersonator show, and a dinner buffet. Not too bad!

When we came home, we took a 4 hour nap, as we had taken the red-eye home. Then I went to pick up the boyz. They were so excited to see me! So excited, in fact, that they were pretty wild. So, I took them to the Dog Park for a couple hours to run off some of that energy. The other owners at the dog park and I decided that Gus considers himself the greeting committee. Every dog that got out of their car Gus was ready and waiting at the gate to greet them! We also decided that Waldo thinks he is the policeman. If dogs are chasing each other, or barking at each other, he runs up to them and starts barking until they stop. I imagine he's saying things like, "Stop that running, kids, you're going to get hurt", or "Break it up, gentlemen, or you're going to jail."

The other thing we realized when we came home was that we had a lot of catching up to do!! No groceries in the house, laundry to do, emails to write, job hunting to catch up on. I went to my google reader, and *gasp!* 516 dog posts to read!!! AAK! Needless to say, I probably won't get around to commenting on all of your posts for a while. But I WILL go and read them all eventually.

If everyone wants to take a 4 day break so I won't have too many new posts to read, that would be great. :)

One quick story about the boyz:
I got a mylar balloon from one of my friends. They do NOT like it.
(sorry for the poor picture quality--can you see the boys slinking in the background?)

p.s. Da boyz heer: While wee wuz gone, dat sneeky Stella came to visit da familee and might have bumped us from "favorite granddog" posishun. Dis iz not fayr! We wuz not heer to deefend arrselvs!

Leavin' On A Jet Plane

Mommee and Daddee are going on a trip! Daddee's brother is getting married in Arizona, so they are going to stay a little longer for mommee's 30th birthday in a place called Vay-gass. We don't know why they have to go away, because we have plenty of gas to go around, but they are going anyway. While they are gone, we are going to be staying at our Uncle Kent's house. Our friend Gunner lives there, too, so we will get to terrorize her a lot. :) We can't wait.

Mommee has been busy getting some other blogs written so that we can post while they are away. Lots of crayzee things have been happening lately, and she didn't want you guys to miss out. But, because she is away, we won't be able to check your blogs for a whole WEEK! We will miss all of you, but we will see you when we get back!

Oh--one more thing. Don't forget about the Tricks for Treats contest! Mommee added some clarifications:

Contest rules:
1. One video submission per doggeh.
2. Please TRY to keep your videos under 1 minute.
3. You don't have to film the most elaborate trick. Points will be given for reaction time, creativity, execution, and presentation. So, even if your dog only knows how to sit, make it the Best Sit Ever, and you might win!

We've gotten some good submissions already! Go here for all of the details.

We will see you guys soon! Have a safe and happy week!

Doggie Bucket List

The Bucket List is a comedy-drama starting Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. The movie is about 2 terminally ill men going on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they "kick the bucket".

Here's a list of things that Gus and Waldo have done in their lifetime, as well as what remains on their "bucket list":

GUS
Things I have done in my doggie lifetime:
  • Gone swimming in a lake
  • Rolled in rabbit poop repeatedly..and it smells SOOO good!
  • Entered (and won!) a costume contest
  • Entered (and placed!) in an online Dog Show
  • Gone swimming at the local pool
  • Kissed a girl
  • Ate mommee's leather shoes
  • Had fleas
  • Had a birthday cake
  • Chased the geese
  • Ran around the neighborhood without mommee's knowledge

WALDO
Things I have done in my doggie lifetime:
  • Chased squirrels around my backyard
  • Gone swimming at the local pool
  • Entered (and won!) a costume contest
  • Entered (and won!) an online dog show
  • Chased birds at the park
  • Gone on a long car trip to visit my Grandma Klimis
  • Lost all of my hair
  • Re-grew all of my hair
  • Dug holes in our backyard
  • Ate Thanksgiving dinner from the trashcan
  • Consumed 19 cupcakes in one sitting

Things we would like to do before we go to the Rainbow Bridge:
  • Go swimming in the ocean
  • Have a birthday party with all of our friends
  • Learn to be service doggies
  • Go hiking in the mountains
  • Waldo--go swimming in the lake
  • Have a steak and sweet potato meal

What about you? Do you have a list of things that you would like to do before you "kick the bucket"?

Good luck!

p.s. Don't forget to check out the post below--mommee visited Stella!

Mommee'z visit to Stella

I had a great time in Lexington with my sister and her husband and their baby Stella! She's such a sweet girl--very lovey and snuggly. Plus, she's so SOFT! I don't remember Waldo and Gus ever being that soft. She still has some struggles with peeing in the house and in her crate, but she's getting better. Thought you'd like to see some pics! Don't worry--this blog will be back to it's regularly scheduled Gus and Waldo programming tomorrow (they're sitting here wondering why I'm taking up "their space").

Why you use flashy ting, Aunt Alli?

Happy Little Family

We got Stella a bunch of new stuff: frisbee, puppy Kong, Wubba, treats and Nylabones--and we got Ashley a sticker for her car!

Grandma liked visiting her 3rd granddog!

Stella's a love-bug with her Aunt Alli.

Sleepy time--it's been a long day.
Stella posted some pictures on her site, too!
